Project 1

Disaster Recovery

A client called me to install cornices in a large, new home which also doubled as a place he held his Church meetings. He wanted the house to feel grand, impressive with carefully designed finishes and decorative plaster moulds.

While I was completing this work, I noticed the corbels around the door frames and (respectfully) asked if he had completed the job himself. The client said he had hired a professional to do it…and I was shocked.

As you’ll see in the “before” photos, none of the lines were even, some of the points were high, some were low, the finishes were messy and rough, nothing was installed properly and apart from being unappealing to the eye, would not have stood the test of time.

I recommended starting again… and the client agreed. I removed the previous work entirely (as none of it could be reused), used laser lines to ensure it was accurate and level with clean, sharp lines. I worked tirelessly to guarantee the points were all the same, the joins were seamless and the design sat flush against the wall. I installed each mould properly using better-quality products, at a cheaper rate, and completed the job with care and precision.

I then repeated this process for the other eight walls and ensured all those walls were also aligned with each other. The client was extremely happy.

To achieve the overall look the client was looking for, however, I also suggested some additional embellishments could be included. I worked with a supplier who makes decorative arches and together we produced and installed the ideal arches for the space and the style of the home.

The end result was miles ahead of where we started, and the client was ecstatic with the results.
