Project 2

Renovating with a wooden ceiling

A client had inherited their grandparent’s home in Hamilton Hill and engaged my services to help renovate it.

As you can see in the photos, the client had applied wooden planks to the ceiling and asked me to adhere the decorative plaster and cornices directly on to the wooden surface.

A lot of preparation went into this job – I stripped the ceiling paint, prepared surfaces and, as cement doesn’t stick to wood easily, had to screw the cornices through the wood, making sure the moulds didn’t crack. I measured and cut the moulds precisely to align all patterns and edges for a seamless, long-lasting result. We continued the pattern throughout the entire house – all bedrooms, dining room and in the tiled bathroom (another installation challenge!).

This was actually the second time I worked for this client – the first being to install ornate cornices and fixtures in their home in Bicton. The client has been so impressed at my work in their old house, they went to great lengths to track me down to help with their new home! If they ever move,

I hope they will call me to help with their third home too!
